reindeerReindeer Belonging to the deer family, of the (genus rangifer ) living in the Arctic and sub arctic regions from Europe, Asia, to America. The reindeer was domesticated in lap land and North Siberia many centuries ago ; it provided them with meat, milk, and clothing, and transportation. They feed on the lichens, willow and birch of shoot, and other vegetation.

In 1891 the reindeer was introduced to Alaska from Siberia, to live and to help the economy of the Eskimo. Later in 1935 herds were established for the Canadian Eskimo. Reindeer (this called Caribou in America) have been much reduced by hunters . A gregarious and migratory animal, they are well known in folklore for pulling Santa Claus sleigh.
