rattlesnakesnakeRattlesnake poisonous snake indigenous to the Americas, belonging to the pit viper family. At the end of the tail is the "rattle " inside is hollow and dried segments, that when shaken makes a whirling sound. When the the snake is young every year 3 or 4 segments are added at each molt. There head is widened at the base.

From South Maine to northeast Florida , and along Iowa and Texas the timber rattlesnake is found. It grows to a length of 5 ft. long its markings yellow or tan with wide dark across bands. The diamondback rattlesnake is the largest and most deadly of the species, 5 to 8 ft. in length and found in the South and southeast United states. The Western diamondback is shorter and thicker. In the West you'll find them in desert areas prairie areas, and in the dry locations.
