marten-pineweaselMarten Carnivorous and, largely aboreal mammal (genus Martes) belonging to the weasel family, widely found in North America, Europe, and Central Asia. The American marten, also called American pine marten and American sable, is from 20 to 25 in. long including the 7 to 8 in. tail.

It lives in coniferous forests where it eats small animals, carrion the, nuts, honey, and berries. Similar to the American marten are the European pine marten and the stone or beach marten of Europe and Central Asia.

The fur of the marten is durable and soft and most often brown on the upper parts and lighter in color on the underparts. The stone marten is grayish.
