kinglet-goldenbirdkinglet Sub family of five species from the Old World warblers, similar to the thrushes and the old world fly catchers unrelated to the American warblers . Kinglets being small (4 in.) have soft fluffy , grayish green or olive plumage and bright crowned patches. There found in many areas in the circumpolar conifer belts.

There is two American species, the Golden crowned Kinglet, and the Ruby crowned kinglet , which breed in Canada and winter in the warmer climates of Mexico. Similar looking are the old world goldcrest and also of the European firecrest . They're active insectivorous birds , traveling in loose bands together with nuthatches, woodpeckers, creepers, and titmice .

They build hanging nests that are purse shape. Another species that is very closely related are the Gnatwrens of Central and South America and the Gnatcatchers , found from the North United States to Argentina. The small dainty, slender covered in soft grays and have thinned, pointed bills; they feed on small insects. The blue gray and Gnatcatcher of United States and Mexico is typical of the group.
