Kingfishers are mostly carnivorous , and nests in Shore Bank tunnels. The family is divided roughly into fishing and forest kingfishers, the American species belonging to the former category. In the Eastern States the common American belted kingfishers purges above the banks of freshwater streams and dives for small fish, crustaceans, amphibians, reptiles, and aquatic insects, then returning to its perch to eat. Its size is between 12 to 14 in. long, and it's coloring is blue gray above and white below; while the female has chestnut breast markings. The Texas kingfishers coloring is green above has no crest, and is smaller (8 in.). Of the forest kingfishers, the best known is the Australian Capybara, famous for its laughing cry and valued as a destroyer of harmful snakes and lizards.
