Hippopotamus African herbivorous mammal, which is related to the Pig. The large hippopotamus has a, broad body with a tough gray or brown hide. The mouth when opened is extremely wide, and the incisors and lower canines are large ivory tusks.
It was hunted for meat by the natives and the Hyde was used for shields and whips. Most of the time the animal lives in the water, where it feeds on aquatic parts. Once extremely common and widespread in Africa, it is now rare except in unsettled areas and on reserves.
